NEWS CLiPS

Haopeng Wang, CWRU PhD Candidate, was selected for Excellence in Graduate Polymer Research Symposium, 2009, for his project on confined crystallization.  This special symposium recognizing excellence in polymer graduate research (at the ACS National Meeting in Salt Lake City) is sponsored by the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry (POLY) and cosponsored by the Younger Chemists Committee (YCC), the Division of Professional Relations (PROF), and Society Committee on Education (SOCED).

Prof. Ken Singer's work on lasers was featured in the special issue of Optics and Photonics News that, "highlights the most exciting research to emerge in the preceding 12 months in the fast-paced world of optics." His article, "Toward Roll-to-Roll Production of Polymer Microresonator Lasers" describes "lasers with operating properties that we never would have dreamed of when the technology was invented 50 years ago."

CLiPS Polymer Envoy alumni and CWRU freshmen, Taneisha Deans and Alexis Crosby, are highlighted in the Case School of Engineering 2008 Annual Report.

The American Chemical selects Benny Freeman to receive the 2009 ACS Award in Applied Polymer Science. Prof. Freeman was also recently honored at the 2008 AIChE meeting where he received the Institute Award for Excellence in Industrial Gases Technology.

The American Institute of Chemical Engineering honors Don Paul recipient of the 2009 AIChE Founders Award.

Ramzi Zahreddine from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won an award for his design of an optical system that is based on spherical GRIN polymer lenses. The prize was awarded at the Optical Research Associates student optical design competition. This is only the 5th time an undergraduate has won one of the awards in the 9 year history of the competition. The competition is open to all US universities.

University of Texas students garner awards.
